Come and learn about investing in Panama. At the ATLAPA Convention Center on March 24, 2011 from 8 am to 5:30 pm interested investors will attend a series of seminars outlining opportunities and giving specifics about investments in Panama.

Pay $100 at the door on the 24th or register early for $75. Bring friends and a group of five pays $50 person for insightful presentations about investment opportunities in the country where the recession never happened. While the world is still languishing in ever so slow recovery efforts Panama’s rate of growth has merely dipped down to the 3% to 5% range and is on its way back up.

The mainstays of Panama’s economy are construction, the Panama Canal with its ports and associated logistics, the insurance industry in Panama, and its banking industry. Although these are the kingpins of growth in Panama the interested investor will learn how he can take part in the growth of this country that joins the Americas as a land bridge and the Atlantic to Pacific via the Panama Canal.

The seminars will highlight the fact that Panama has a business friendly government and is economically and politically stable. It has one of the lowest crime rates in Latin America and is truly a tropical paradise.

Panama conducts a census every 10 years just like most countries from whence you came. It is essentially a snapshot of who is in the country on a particular day which, in this case, is Sunday, May 16. Please mark your calendars.

Census takers will be out coming to your door starting at 7:00 AM. The whole day is allocated to taking the census.

This is very important –

YOU CANNOT LEAVE YOUR HOME UNTIL YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE CENSUS FORM !!!!

The census taker will give you a “pass” when you have completed the census process and you can then leave your home. If you are caught on the street without this “pass” you will be fined. Stores and churches will be closed that day.

If you know ahead of time you will be away from your home and “uncountable” on May 16, you may go to the census office at the nearest to you on May 12 – May 15 and fill out the form.

The census worker who comes to your door may or may not know any English so if you don’t know much Spanish it is important that you prepare. The form is 12 pages long. You can read it and/or print it out by going here:

www.censos2010.gob.pa/cuestionario.pdf

The first set of questions is about the household in general including questions about the construction of the house. The second set of questions must be filled out separately by every person who slept in that house the night before (including guests).

You must give your name, but all data is used only for statistical purposes and is confidential.

This is very important to the foreign community. It will give the Panamanian government a better picture of our numbers in each area.

Miami, Florida – January 21, 2010 – Filligent unlimited in Hong Kong, the manufacturers of the Revolutionary medical face mask the “Bio Mask“, and New Century International in Miami, FL are making enormous contributions to the massive rescue efforts in Haiti. So far they have donated to the Red Cross, to the Project Medishare/Dr Barth Green, to media and rescue personnel and to the Haitian authorities among others.

Chris Pertierra, Director of New Century International states: ” Our masks will be a life saving tool for all rescue personnel, it is a revolutionary medical face mask that has the unique capability to filter and at the same time inactivate and kill 99.9% of all viruses and bacteria, each mask will actively protect for a minimum of 12 hours or more. The mask will also relieve workers against pernicious tiny particles and dust that is a danger in post earthquake zones produced by all of the collapsed structures; these can clog and shred the lungs and throats, which can cause illness. Years after the Twin Towers collapsed in NY City many rescue workers are now diagnosed and suffering from the effects of inhaling these particles, we just do not want this to happen again!

Through our heartfelt donations we hope that we can save lives and thus make a small contribution to all the people in Haiti”

Alex De La Cruz, President of New Century International is now on a flight en route to Haiti to coordinate the distribution efforts of the Bio Mask in Haiti.

“Filligent” CEO Melissa Mowbrey-d’ Arbela states… “Humanitarian and government organizations are on the front line of containing infections and at this time we are allocating our resources to respond to the needs, the “Bio Mask” was designed specifically for situations like this.”

The General Administrator of the Panama Tourism Authority (ATP), Salo Shamah, notes that 4 commercials are being produced ranging from 15 seconds to 15 minutes in different regions such as Boquete, Panama City, Bocas del Toro and beaches located in both oceans.

Are photographs also being produced that reflect the tourism experience in Panama and a major program in English of 30 minutes for the cable channel E! Entertainment. The ATP will have rights of the show and may reproduce it in other media.

Another effort will be the gathering of the International Surfers in the world that will show the great choices of this sport in the coast of Panama.

With all these images and footage four commercials for the U.S. market will also be created.

“The cost of this promotion is B / 800.000 and includes production and media plan. Now everything is running and will perform well in the short term, “said Shamah.

MICI, 12 January 2010. The Panamanian proposal to incorporate Panama in the trade negotiations with the European Union (EU) under the formula SIECA +1 adds more sympathizers among the European countries.

As part of the launch of the Agency for Investment Promotion of Panama, the Minister of Foreign Trade of the Netherlands, Frank Heemskerk, publicly announced that the Netherlands government fully supports the formula SIECA +1.

Frank Heemskek, Minister of Foreign Trade of Holland

.

The Panamanian government’s proposal is that Panama is incorporated into the Central America trade talks with the EU, but without joining first the Central American Integration System (SIECA). “We want to join the partnership agreement to further stimulate the integration to SIECA, a more extensive and complex process and that could be sustained with Panama and still within the FTA,” said Minister of Commerce and Industry of Panama, Roberto Henriquez.

The Panamanian offer would add to the negotiations for broader and more encompassing offer of the Central American market, but without affecting the progress made to date by the other countries of the region, said the Minister Henriquez.

The Panamanian minister reiterated that the regional economic integration agenda should be “seen in that context and not subject to commercial negotiation processes and the integration agenda that requires time, form and long-term conditions that have nothing to do with a negotiation trade with the rest of the region. ”

On another issue, the proprietor of trade of Holland expressed the interest of his government to begin negotiations with Panama for treaty to avoid double taxation.

President of the youth committee and vice chairwoman of the tourism commission of the Panamanian Association of Business Executives (APEDE) and advises the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture of Panama.

1. Which do you think has been the secret of your success this year? This year has been a year of risk for me, to give up highly paid job and open 2 new companies (Panama Travel Group and The Panama Club) betting on the opportunities that only a country like Panama offers to young entrepreneurs, doing what we I do best, giving foreigners the best experience of the country, focusing on a high level of customer service.

I consider this an adventure, I work a lot, but I do not consider my job work, rather something I really enjoy, a passion.

2. What are your views on the future of Panama? I am so proud to be Panamanian, we’re the Latin American country with the strongest growth in a year of extreme recession. We have an economy based on so many sectors which allows us to weigh the difficult times and you see we are discovering new areas in which we can position ourselves like tourism. We have an enviable geographic position, the best logistics and banking system of the region and a center-right government that is committed to providing better development opportunities and has a social agenda for the Panamanians to improve their quality of life.

3. What does the country needs to keep growing? We need to bet on education for Panamanians, our human resource, which is our best introduction. We have everything in this country, which is why so many foreigners are so interested in it and are bringing a lot of investment and creating opportunities, but education has lagged behind, which does not allow us to fill the specialized jobs generated. At the same time it is unusual to see Panamanians opening their own businesses, since there is a lack of entrepreneurship culture.

About the Capital Newspaper: it is a published newspaper focused on finance, economics, business and technology whose versions, El Financiero of Costa Rica and Panama Financial Capital, began circulating in March 1995 and August 2000 respectively. It targets an audience that requires current, reliable and quality information and is decision makers in private companies and state institutions, which make the editorial spirit of the publication.

The Financial and Financial Capital favor free enterprise, competition, trade liberalization and modernization of the State, so that editorially is against monopolies, trade barriers and distorting everything and economic environment which affect business performance macroeconomically in each country.

The local growth will be driven by the “recovery of world trade and the implementation of infrastructure projects, among which the construction of the third set of locks of the Panama Canal and the expansion of the coastal strip.

The agency forecasts growth ‘even higher’ if some of the projects announced by the Government become a reality, “as the construction of the subway in the capital, another international airport and housing.”

The economic recovery and tax reforms that will reduce the fiscal deficit, while inflation will remain low.

To the end of this year, CEPAL provides an improvement of 2.5% in GDP, half a percentage point lower than the government’s estimate.

The economist Raul Moreira spoke of other agencies which projected a growth of 3% and 5% this year and next, noting the positive expectations generated by the Panamanian economy.

The picture presented by CEPAL for Latin America and the Caribbean is also optimistic, with growth of 4.1% set in 2010.

“The worst of the crisis is behind us. The engines of growth are lit, but we do not know how long the fuel will last,”said Alicia Barcena, Executive Secretary of CEPAL.

In the Panamanian marketplace 90 banks operate.

The banking industry maintains the strength of its main indicators at the end of the first half of the year, despite the external and internal environment is not entirely in their favor.

Assets on an individual basis totaled 63 thousand 910 million dollars at end of first semester, an increase of 2.5% compared with June 2008. On a consolidated basis (including subsidiaries) amounted to 77 thousand 603 million, an increase of 4%.

The central bank liquidity remains strong, with a healthy loan portfolio and solvency levels above the regulatory minimum, according to the quarterly report of the Superintendency of Banks.

The return of center ROAA reached 1.8% and an ROE of 14.3%, reflecting a decrease in relation to those recorded in the previous year. This is because banks have chosen to sacrifice profitability for liquidity, as a prudent measure to counter possible effects of global financial crisis.

Financial liquidity is located on a 65.94% while the current regulatory framework requires 30%.
